National Rugby Team training will begin on Thursday Aug 5th with a brief fitness session with Fraser putting us through our paces.

The goal is to create a competitive National team that can compete in the NACRA (North American Caribbean Rugby Association) 7’s tournament next year in July.
By working towards this goal and sending a competitive side to NACRA in 2011 we can achieve two key goals as a club:

·        we will have a better overall skill base, and…

·        it will help our case towards becoming fully fledged members of the IRB via obtaining full NACRA membership – which is up from our current Associate Member status.

We have been told by NACRA that we need to start attending the annual NACRA tournaments and sending competitive sides if we want to be considered for full membership. As such the ball is now in our court.

We will achieve this by specific rugby sevens fitness and skill sessions that will begin this Thursday and continue on thru the next few months, leading to the selection of a National side to attend the Trinidad & Tobago tournament to be held in December of this year.

To send the best possible side, we want to create effective competition between players, therefore we will only select the top 12 players to represent the Turks and Caicos in future Sevens tournaments. The selection will be based on skills, fitness and player progression. Everyone has an even chance to be selected provided they put the effort in and can demonstrate their ability and commitment.  For those wanting to be considered for selection, you should also consider putting some $$ away each week to help pay for your ticket in December should you be selected. If you allow $700 for a ticket and there are approx 17 weeks to go you need to be looking at about $40 a week.

If you know of anyone else who might want to participate in this program please forward this email to them and encourage them to attend Thursday nights session.  The club wants to have the biggest pool of available talent to choose the squad from.

The team will be selected by a committee comprising Fraser Dodds, Mark Parish and Keith Burant.
In addition the following positions have been announced.

Head Coach:                      Blair Mason
Team Fitness trainer:     Fraser Dodds
Assistant/Skills Coach:   Mark Parrish
Manager:                           Keith Burant

Now’s the time lads to play rugby with a goal in mind, so let us know who wants to try out, or if you want to try out but can’t make the first sessions due to summer holidays etc.

Regards,
Blair Mason – Club Captain
