Former British Lion & England Player visits TCI

Former British Lion and English Rugby player Dewi Morris has arrived on island to conduct a series of coaching seminars with the TCUI Rugby Football Club.

The former international star player had a long and distinguished playing career with England, appearing in the 1995 Rugby World Cup and touring New Zealand with the 1993 British Lions side. At the invitation of the TCI Rugby Football Union, Morris has travelled from the UK with his family to visit Providenciales for two weeks, and offer his expertise and advise for the keen young and old rugby players in the country. This has been an invaluable experience for all concerned as the players who have been attending the coaching sessions, have been able to meet their hero, and ask questions about rugby as well as gaining an insight into the life of an international rugby star. Morris’s career saw him play against the great sides in world rugby, and the local players have had the opportunity to ask him questions about these matches as well as learn techniques and skills from one of the best scrumhalves in the business. The training sessions, of which two have already been held, will continue on Saturday morning with the Junior Development program at Grace Bay followed by a further two training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday this week.

In addition to the training session Dewi Morris will be the guest of honour at the inaugural TCI Rugby Football Union "Presidents Dinner" happening this Sunday Aug 24th at the Provo Golf Club. This is expected to be a popular event and tickets are being snapped up fast. See website for details. This is his first visit to the Turks and Caicos Islands and he commented on how beautiful the country is and how impressed he is with the local standard of play. ’Developing junior rugby is one of the most important aspects of the game all around the world today, and I'm glad to be able to help out with the training program that the local rugby club is putting in place in for the TCI.’ In his capacity as an international Television Sports Commentator , Dew Morris will also be looking to tell the world about rugby in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the TCIRFU is looking forward to being able to attract other high profile rugby players to visit the island in the future and continue the good work that Dewi Morris has started.
